Here are some links for my "Poor Boy" computer upgrade.
This setup cost just under $500.00.
I also am sending my BFG 8800GTX back to BFG and will wait untill they either repair or upgrade, (I Hope!), the card before I purchase a second card.
Plesae post your comments.
It isnt an Intel I7 system, but I am very confident that it will give me a few years of great service.

Sweet;

The AMD Black Box I heard is a fantastic CPU - a veritable work horse.

850 PSU will be more than enough - running an SLI rig, you'll still have plenty of power left at full tilt.

Ahh! - good old ASUS motherboard can't go wrong there - the best  in my opinion.

DDR 3 RAM -  what's not to like - GSkill has been making a name for itself in the last few years.

What's not to like in those parts - I'm starting to feel a little squeezed now - your system is coming very close to matching mine - probably score very high on the 3DMark benchmark.

Gook for you Geek - all I can say is you've made all good choices and kept the price down - excellent!

That looks like a crossfire board Geek.  2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 , support ATI CrossFireX™ technology (at one x16 or dual x8 link)
2 x PCIe x1
2 x PCI 2.2

Looks good though. That chip should give some decent performance. I'd actually consider the 4000 series ATI, the price is dropping quite nicely.

P.S. my I7 is now running at 3.85ghz and the memory is at 1630mhz.

yes it is an ATI crossfire board. I have a ATI card that Blaze sent me, so I will use that for now, and Sammy can have the Nvidia board and 7800's.

Shocked  Shocked  Shocked

A machine like that and doesn't game - Damn - more money than brains just for surfing the net.

Hell, a Pentium 90 with 60 MB HD and 256 MB RAM  running Windows 95  will surf the net just as well, I know I have an old P90 in the closet and it's faster surfing the net than my Gaming Rig.

IE 8 is oh so slooooow!

M2 - your system sounds like it's purring like a wild cat - nice overclock - you beat me in GHz for CPU and are coming close in the speed for RAM.  Sweet - are you sure it's stable?

Shocked  Shocked  Shocked

At least you tried - man what a waste though eh!.

Sounds like my wife, she has a computer just for the internet with an Intel Duo Core 8600 @ 3.33 GHz with 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, a 10,000 RPM WD 500 MB Raptor and a BFG 8800 GTS OC 512 2.0. video card.
I told her that's way too much just to surf the net. Besides she only uses it to view a trailer of a movie once in awhile and she's only using 5% of her HD and will never use anymore.

It was her money so I guess I can't say much.

Carp - keep bugging your brother -  wear him down, then make a trade with him - hee hee.

Good Luck.

Sounds like a sweet setup Blaze!
I see you went with the 955 instead of the 965 . Why?
The 965 is 3.4 and the 955 is 3.2, both are 125 watt. humm..
I cant wait to get mine setup!
We can race them...lol.

What are you running now Blaz? - Thought it was state of the art with a very high end Intel CPU. (i7 Quad core 920) I could be wrong let us know.

Will these new parts help in speeding up your current system?

Want to buy mine - I'm building a new one.

Hi hornet,

Yes this new upgrade will give my rig a nice little performance boost, at the moment i am  using a athlon X64 6000 dual core, and DDR2 RAM, plus it will be nice to have a more
up to date operating system, Quad core will help in some of the games i play for sure.  Im sure the new mobo and DDR3 will also benefit my gaming experiance also.

Billynomates has now got a i7 920 Quad, Asus P6T Deluxe, 6GB of DDR3. ATI HD5870, ANTEC 900 CASE,  160GB SSD. 850watt PSU. Windows 7 64bit

Nice system,

Looking forward to getting in all in and installed, and hopefully be able to play world at war again Cool
