|

hi, i have been thinking about this for a long time, i would like to try to have a go at setting one up at home,
I have a lot of donar parts i could use for the server, so it would be quite easy to build a whole new machine, i would install XP Pro 64bit., the machine would be a dual core cpu,and 4gb of ram, and i would stick in a 700gb hard drive to start of with.
i know there are lots of things to consider, but it would be nice for the clan to have another server to play with. Of course i expect help from you guys with the tech jargon.
let me know your thoughts about it and games to install |

| I have had the dedicated HP server up at home here for quite some time. The problem with running a server from your house is that you will not have the bandwidth necessary to run games. Everyone will have very high pings. |

what improves the bandwidth?? Is it the package you got from your ISP... IE...5MB,10MB, 20MB, 50MB??

It is not the download speed that is the issue, it's the upload speed.
You probably wont be able to get the connection you need unless you fork out a lot of money. Hundreds of dollars per month.
Most service providers really don't like for you to run servers from your house. That is why they use dynamic ip's that change from time to time. A static ip is a must.
Also if you are on a cable companies connection then it is a shared connection, and bandwidth will drop as more of your neighbors go online.
You need an oc3 connection or better.
That is why I am looking for a data center to put this HP in. |
